CAMERON KINGHORN
Cameron Kinghorn is a vocalist, trumpeter, and songwriter who performs regularly at major venues in the Twin Cities, as well as nationally and internationally. As a vocalist Cameron performs most frequently as the frontman of King Pari, a new lo-fi R&B duo whose debut EP is expected in 2021. He also previously led the Soul/R&B group Nooky Jones, whose last EP Like Candy was released in September of 2019, marked by a release show at the legendary Paisley Park on September 28th, 2019.
As a trumpeter Cameron performs with the Afrobeat/Afrofunk band Black Market Brass, and is featured on the group’s LP Undying Thirst, released in February of 2020 on Colemine Records. When Cameron isn’t making and performing music of his own he can be seen performing with a wide range of artists such as Dessa and The Minnesota Orchestra, The New Standards, Aby Wolf and Champagne Confetti, and Mild High Club, with whom he performed at the 2018 Coachella Music Festival.
Cameron is also an accomplished educator and clinician. He received his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Minnesota (2013) and served as jazz band director at South High School in Minneapolis before committing to his touring and recording career full time. He has led clinics throughout MN through the support of the Minnesota State Arts Board Arts on Tour grants, and offered private lessons for singers, instrumentalists and composers the past 7 years.
Cameron is now accepting new students for distance learning!
“Cameron's musical expertise and skillful instruction make him a wonderful teacher. Learning remotely has never posed a challenge. In fact, I really love it. I look forward to every lesson!” - Sheri (student)
“The thing I like most about Cameron is his positive energy. He is always upbeat and makes the lessons fun. I can hear my daughter and Cameron laugh and have fun together, even when they are working hard. Cameron listens to my daughter and gives her feedback on her technique. Cameron is always on time and communicates well when we need to make changes to a lesson. After each lesson he writes a follow up with what to work on for the next lesson. He is incredibly talented and has pushed my daughter in her singing. I have seen a huge change in her ability and her confidence, and I know that is because she is working with Cameron.” - Amy (a student’s parent)
“I have been so happy for this year of Cameron teaching my 6th-grade son trumpet. I was hoping for a teacher who would stoke my son’s joy for playing, teach him technique and theory, be a kind and reliable teacher. He’s been all these for my son Lincoln. His teaching has been deliberate and focused, and he keeps my kid in task during on-line lessons (which is a miracle in itself) while still making room for some banter and playfulness. He has been a responsive communicator about logistics and uber reliable about lessons. I love that his own personal music projects are so creative and varied. I love that he was known in Minneapolis for being a collaborator with so many different people and groups in the various music scenes. I love that he cares about kids and investing in future musicians. And, honestly, from my initial Facebook-stalking, I love that his social media feed shows him to deeply love his own family, especially his mama (:, and to be filled with the kind of friendships that make me feel especially good about the sort of person Cameron is in his private life as well. I value that for my son. I think anyone would be lucky to have Cameron as a trumpet teacher!” - Sarah (student’s parent)
