“I’ve grown to expect shimmering, unafraid art from their music and videos, and they deliver every time.” - Cecilia Johnson, 89.3 The Current

Minnesota producer Tyler Tholl’s solo instrumental recording project has grown into Maple & Beech, a seven-piece artpop band known for their energetic performances and engaging videos.

Together with childhood friend Pete James Johnson, Tholl recorded 2017’s RUNDAWDAW, a synth-pop album filled with strings and horns alongside lyrics centered around repetition, technology, and adulthood. It includes the song “Cavers,” which Indie Shuffle called “one of the most creative indie pop tunes of the year thus far.” The duo soon followed-up RUNDAWDAW with the single “Sand Sing,” a horn-and-drum-heavy satire released on limited edition cassette.

In early 2018, Maple & Beech expanded. Singer Nicole Wilder, guitarist John Knauss, bassist Dan Lehn, and multi-instrumentalist Nick Syman joined the band along with Nora Kain, Tholl’s wife and behind-the-scenes creative force. Now a seven-piece ensemble, Maple & Beech continues to perform in venues around Minnesota as Tholl writes and records new music.
